Former Bishop Chatard High School baseball player John Dury thinks about his appearance in the 1976 Indiana North/South All-Star Series every year at this time, but the memories might be more vivid this summer. His son, also named John, will be playing in the three-game series at the University of Notre Dame's Frank Eck Stadium on Saturday and Sunday.

"It's full circle for me," said the elder Dury, whose son, Mike, played in the 2003 event, also representing Bishop Chatard. "The game I played in was also in South Bend and we stayed on the Notre Dame campus. John's our youngest child, (and this is a) nice way to end it."

Other Indianapolis-area players participating on the South team are Jared Broughton (Lutheran), Sean Collins (Pendleton Heights), Brad Hook (Franklin), Nate Koontz (Brebeuf Jesuit), Shawn Mattingly (Decatur Central), Andrew Spleth (Lawrence North), Michael Tucker (Zionsville) and Justin Zeller (North Central). Decatur Central's Phil Webster will coach with Clark Reeves of Avon as his assistant. Westfield's Jake Hansen is playing for the North team.

The weekend begins with today's banquet that includes the announcement of Mr. Baseball. A junior showcase will be held Saturday morning, followed by a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.

A game using wood bats is at 1 p.m. Sunday.

"It's a huge honor to continue the family tradition," said the youngest Dury, who will play football and baseball at the University of Indianapolis.

The event has not been kind to the Dury family on the field, as the elder Dury doesn't remember pitching well before continuing his career at North Carolina State and Mike Dury suffered a knee injury in the game, though he played at Notre Dame.
