Beth Reed Named Women's Soccer Academic All-American of the Year

TOWSON, Md. - Navy women's soccer captain Beth Reed (Indianapolis, Ind.) has been named the ESPN The Magazine Women's Soccer Academic All-American of the Year while fellow senior and standout defender Shelly Moeller (Milford, Ohio) joins her in earning 2009 Academic All-America honors, it was announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Reed is the first of the Naval Academy's 58 Academic All-Americans to receive the top Academic All-America award for a specific sport (or combined-sport award program). In addition to earning the highest academic honor bestowed upon any Division I women's soccer student-athlete, Reed was also a First-Team Academic All-America selection for the first time in her career. Moeller, meanwhile, was a third-team selection, receiving her first career national academic laurel... A mechanical engineering major, Reed owns a 3.97 grade-point average and ranks second in Overall Order of Merit among the 1,064 midshipmen in the Class of 2010. She has held the top ranking in her class in Academic Order of Merit in five of her six semesters at the Academy. The Indianapolis native also ranks sixth among her classmates in Military Order of Merit, has been recognized on the Commandant's List in each of her six semesters and named to Superintendent's List five times....
