Star correspondent
Former Bishop Chatard High School soccer star Beth Reed was named the Patriot League.s goalkeeper of the week on Monday for the second time in her career at Navy. Reed earned the honor after the Midshipmen shutout Army and Holy Cross in a pair of 2-0 victories. Reed made five saves against Army in front of 2,627 fans and needed to stop only a single shot against Holy Cross to pick up her eighth shutout of the season.
Reed leads the Patriot League in every major goalkeeping category and ranks fifth in the nation in goal against average (0.46) and save percentage (.901).
"Beth has been solid all year,. said Navy head coach Carin Gabarra in a press release. "She is a great leader and she is also our captain, which sometimes is kind of hard to be from in the goal because you are not always prevalent in the center of the field. She's been great all year. She is always solid and always ready, which makes everyone in front of her play with more confidence."
