Class: 3A. Sectional: 22. Last year's record: 14-1 overall, Class 3A state champs. Coach: Vince Lorenzano (51-8 at Chatard, 110-75 overall). Assistant coaches: Chris Toner, Jim Pappas, Charlie Vannice, Glenn Bill, Nate Vannice, Kevin Jennings, Kevin Shine, Ken Harden. Returning starters on offense: 4. Returning starters on defense: 7. Top returnee to watch: Zach Martin. The junior defensive end (6-5, 265) is someone who is strong, swift and smart. "He's one of those guys who comes along once every five or six years," Lorenzano said. Top prospect to watch: Ari Pappas. The sophomore running back (5-11, 185) is a player with good speed and toughness. He figures to be a contributor in the backfield. Expected team strengths: The defense, led by Martin, noseguard Graham Wilkerson (6-0, 210) and linebackers Mike Dum (6-2, 205) and John Dury (6-2, 215), should be a cornerstone. Returning quarterback Rob Doyle (6-0, 195) completed 66-of-121 passes for 1,115 yards and 15 TDs, so the offense may open up some to take advantage of his ability. Program's all-time leading rusher: Joe Holland (2003-06), 5,265 yards. Program's all-time leading passer: Bill Lynch (1969-71), 4,257 yards. Program's all-time leading receiver: Kyle Conner (1993-95), 1,498 yards. Program.s most famous alumnus: Cap Boso. A two-way standout for the Trojans, Boso played at the University of Illinois. He then went to the NFL where he had 54 receptions for 591 yards and four TDs in six seasons, one with the St. Louis Cardinals (1986) and five with the Chicago Bears (1987-91).
