High School Wrestling Semistate Preview
Chatard's Dum still rounding into shape
Star correspondent
An injury during football season limited Bishop Chatard wrestler Mike Dum to just 12 matches, but by no means is the 189-pounder well rested. Dum said it sometimes feels like the exact opposite. "I had been running even when I couldn't practice, but running shape is not the same as wrestling shape," said Dum, who won the Pendleton Heights Regional last weekend to earn a first-round bye in today's New Castle Semistate. "I'm not where I need to be with that just yet." Dum (11-1) gutted out a 2-0 win against Lawrence North's B.J. Grimes in the regional final and now stands just one win from a return trip to the state meet. "That was definitely big, and not only physically," he said. "Mentally it was big to win a match like that. You're going to have low-scoring matches like that from this point on. It was big to come out on top in one of those." Chatard also sends Anthony Bill (32-7), who took second in the regional at 152 pounds.
