Seasoned Chatard team books for bigger things
Star correspondent
What might have been a rebuilding season for new Bishop Chatard softball coach Pat Miles in 2007 turned into a 14-11 campaign that saw the Trojans reach the sectional final. Eight full-time and two part-time starters return, which has the team looking at more impressive accomplishments. "We definitely feel we can compete for a city championship, and we're hoping we can compete for a sectional title," Miles said. "I think the optimism is really high. To lose in the sectional final to a team (Whiteland) that lost in the regional final made us feel pretty good." Back are starting pitcher Amy Coutz, first baseman Kellie Techulve, infielder/pitcher Kim Tyler, left fielder Kathleen Lee, catchers/outfielders Amy and Kelly Hill, designated hitter/first baseman Paige Snider and utility player Morgan Cheeseman. No. 2 pitcher Mollie Kilbane and outfielder/designated runner Jill Craig also started from time to time. "Last year it was more of a 'Let's see what we've got' situation," Miles said. "We were so young last year and we didn't know what to expect, but we were very happy with what we were able to accomplish, and it's got us pretty excited about this season."
