Sectional full of good foes
Bishop Chatard entered this week with a 21-3 record and ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, but coach Mike Harmon doesn't have to worry about overconfidence entering the postseason. Not only do the Trojans have a challenging sectional that includes Beech Grove, No. 7 Brebeuf Jesuit (18-4) and Roncalli, but the team's three losses have been by a combined score of 38-1. The most recent was an 11-1 loss to rival Cathedral - Chatard's second loss to the Irish - on May 14 in the City Tournament championship. "We have very little room for error, and our three losses are proof of this." The Trojans open the playoffs with Howe at 7:30 pm Monday at Brebeuf and would play Beech Grove or Brebeuf (which play at 5 pm Monday) at 5 pm May 28 in the semifinals. Roncalli faces Northwest in the other semifinal at 7:30pm May 28, with the championship at 6pm May 30. "If you had to handicap it, the favorable draw went to Roncalli, but we'll approach it one game at a time and try to string together three games in a row to win that sectional," Harmon said. "Overall we've been pleased with how the season has gone. We just need to be more consistent throwing first pitch strikes."
