Junior quarterback Grant Gibbons ran for three touchdowns and passed for another Friday to lead Class 3A No. 5 Evansville Memorial over No. 1 and defending state champion Bishop Chatard 27-14 in a high school football semistate game in Evansville.

The Tigers' four-wide receiver set spread out the visiting Trojans defense as Gibbons passed for 253 yards and ran for 41.

Evansville Memorial (12-2) built a 14-7 halftime lead as Gibbons found Jackson Jarboe for a 14-yard touchdown score in the first quarter and ran one in himself in the second.

Gibbons ran in two more scores in the second half, from 3 and 10 yards out.

The Trojans tied the score 7-all in the second quarter as Steve Commiskey found Bobby Akin with a 44-yard TD pass, but that is as close as they would come.
