Chatard working through bye week

The Bishop Chatard High School football team has Friday night off, but the Class 3A No. 1 Trojans aren't exactly laying low. "I think our kids might have thought we were," Chatard coach Vince Lorenzano said, "until they came to practice the last two nights." With a bye in Sectional 22 -- Chatard (8-1) will play at Rushville or Howe next week -- Lorenzano said it has been mostly business as usual for the two-time defending state champion. The sixth-year coach gave his team the weekend off after a 34-7 win over Greenfield-Central on Friday, but warned that there was much work to do in the week ahead. Not that he has been upset with the Trojans' performance. The only blemish is a 15-14 loss to rival Cathedral, and the Trojans are allowing just 8.8 points per game. Lorenzano said his assistant coaches will canvass the state Friday, scouting possible future opponents. "I could see if we were banged up that being off on Friday would be a benefit, but we're really not," Lorenzano said. "It's a little bit of a different Friday night." Copyright 2008 IndyStar.com.
