Lawrence Central High School girls golf coach Nick Derado and Dave Vannatta, his counterpart at Lawrence North, agree that No. 14 Cathedral and Bishop Chatard are heavily favored to grab the top two spots in the Lawrence Central Sectional on Saturday.

The race for the third and final spot in the regional, however, is wide open.

"I'd pretty much say it's a tossup," Derado said, comparing the Bears with Heritage Christian and Lawrence North. "Heritage Christian has been the most consistent throughout the season. At our invitational they beat us by 10 strokes. Lawrence North has been within two to five strokes (of us) in the tournaments we've played in.

"Whoever's playing better that day will advance."

Broad Ripple and Park Tudor also will be competing at South Grove Golf Course at noon Saturday. The top three teams and top three individuals from non-advancing teams earn berths in the Lafayette Jeff Regional. Brebeuf Jesuit, North Central and Pike are also among the teams competing in the Ben Davis Sectional at 11:30 a.m. Friday at South Grove Golf Course to advance to the Franklin Central Regional....
