Volleyball Update
Fifth-ranked Bishop Chatard upset then-Class 3A No. 1 -- and defending state champion -- Brebeuf Jesuit 25-19, 16-25, 16-14 Saturday at the Yorktown Invitational. The Trojans also beat Westfield and 3A No. 9 Delta before losing to 3A No. 3 Bellmont. "What I was most interested in heading into the tournament is trying to figure out how we'd play," said Chatard coach Larry Leonhardt, whose team lost to Fishers earlier in the week. "We have kids that have experience in volleyball but are new to our team and were filling in roles from graduation." Middle Erica Stahl (committed University of Cincinnati), setter Katie Shaughnessy and libero Sara Arias continued their high-level of play, but Leonhardt also was happy with the play of defensive specialist Marissa Collier, who was repeatedly served at to avoid Arias, and front line player Annalise Lowry. Roncalli (8-0) also had a strong showing at the Yorktown Invitational, winning all four of its matches. The Rebels beat then-No. 2 Yorktown, Bellmont, Fort Wayne Concordia and Delta without losing a game. Roncalli moved up to No. 2 in the state coaches association's poll. "We just serve very, very well," Roncalli coach Missy Marsh said. "We take teams out of their offense and we use it to help our offense. And our blocking was very good, which is something we don't usually hang our hat on." Copyright 2010 IndyStar.com. All rights reserved
