1. Cathedral: The Irish lost four starters to Division I college programs that started on the 2007 and '09 state champions -- Jennifer Collins, Anna Ventimiglia, Katie Wacker and Mariah Whitaker -- but coach Marc Behringer has set the goal of winning a third title in four years. Allison Scarlott, Sophia Spenia (returning from surgery), Alex Meador (returning from injury) and Jasmine Whitaker lead a still-talented cast for Cathedral, which will get a boost from a talented freshman class. 2. Brebeuf Jesuit: The Braves finished with a sub-.500 record -- 8-10-2 -- but made up for that by winning their sectional before falling to eventual state champion Cathedral in the regional. The program lost plenty of talent but coach Gary Yohe believes the confidence built last year will carry over. Elise DeTrude, Rachel Dill, Halle Freihofer, Jayla Delaney and Courtney Burks return with Kelly Rodman and Lexi Humm (a transfer from Cathedral) ready to step in. 3. North Central: Coach Tim Blom lacks a standout player but is looking forward to having a deep, experienced team. Jasmine Moses and Molly Larazon lead a class of 10 seniors that will ensure the team doesn't have a major weakness, with a playing rotation that could go 16 deep. The Panthers haven't won a sectional since 2007, and this senior class knows it's its last chance. 4. Lawrence North: The Wildcats lost Marion County Player of the Year Robyn Miley (Ball State) and Alicia LaBonne to graduation and her sister, freshman Paige LaBonne, has transferred to Fishers. The rest of a gifted freshman class returns, however, led by Kennedy Hathaway, Jordan MacKellar and Tabitha Sloan.Claire Spleth will be back in goal. Senior Jennifer Matters is ready to step in at midfield and freshman Savannah Oneacre will add to the program's young talent. Lawrence North will look to build off last year's County championship and battle Cathedral in its sectional. 5. Lawrence Central: Coach Chris Harmon knows he has the starting 11 to match up with anyone but is concerned about depth with decreasing numbers in the program. Tory Herrmann, all-county as a freshman, returns after missing all last year with a broken pelvis, as do Katie McDowell, a four-year starter in net, Danielle Baker and Natalie Sidebottom. Meghan Siemers is a transfer from Evansville Central who is expected to contribute immediately. 6. Bishop Chatard: The Trojans lost major contributors in Rachael Kimack, McKenzie Burns and Michaela Ranft but return eight players with starting experience, led by Katelyn Barron (12 goals, 3 assists), Niki Kimack and Kylie Queisser (6 goals, 3 assists). Sophomore Taylor Pouri and freshman Krissy Kirkhoff are expected to contribute. Coach Ben Reilly believes his team will be competitive with archrival Cathedral for the City and sectional titles. 7. Pike: The Red Devils lost their top offensive player (Ashton Green, who took her 24 goals to Xavier University) and defender (Lauren McKinney) but coach Warner Moses believes his program is well enough established in his third season to maintain the success it had in going 9-6-1 last year. Jaylon Griffith returns to lead the defense, with Ginyce Haywood and Carrie Walton also back. Chelsea Morton injured her knee in the spring but is expected to be healthy and lead the offense. Janell Cross will step up from the junior varsity and Moses has a talented freshman class. 8. Park Tudor: Mark Phillips will take over a program that lost Maddie Kahn, Molline Brunner and Katherine Kulka from a team that was 6-8-1. But he will benefit from returning all-county senior midfielder Abby Farley (6 goals, 6 assists), senior defender Mariah Bird, senior forward Carey Kunz, sophomore defender/midfielder Sarah DeVito and sophomore forward Rachel Smitherman (11 goals, 4 assists). 9. Heritage Christian: The Eagles lost Sarah Wilkins (now playing at Indiana Wesleyan) from a 4-12 team but coach Rodney Goins will return a strong nucleus in returning starters Madi Yeary and C.J. Davis with freshman Rachael Thomas expected to add speed and scoring up front. The program has added Rebecca Jensen, Fouad Masri and Allison Guion to the coaching staff. Copyright 2010 IndyStar.com.
