Class 3A Preview
3A: 8 returning starters bode well for Chatard Trojans
By Kyle Neddenriep

1. Bishop Chatard (12-2 last season):
For the second consecutive year, the
Trojans rolled through the regular season
before losing to Evansville Memorial in
the semistate. The graduation of career
rushing leader Ari Pappas leaves a void,
though senior fullback Mike Adkins and
senior tailback Nolan Miller (632 yards)
return. Look for senior Stephen
DeSchyver or junior Max Van Vliet to
emerge at quarterback. Eight starters
return from an outstanding defense (11.3
points per game)....

Players to watch
TOP PASSERS
1. Trey Reese, Indian Creek The 6-1, 200-pound senior could improve on his gaudy numbers from last year: more than 2,000 yards and 22 touchdowns.
2. Tanner Stis, Hamilton He stepped in nicely as a junior, completing 53 percent of his passes for 834 yards and 12 touchdowns.
2. Jon Pedigo, Danville Danville's offense struggled last year, but he managed more than 1,100 yards and should be better as a senior.
TOP RUNNERS 1. Nolan Miller, Bishop Chatard The senior running back gets his chance to shine now that Ari Pappas has graduated. He'll have fullback Mike Adkins blocking for him.
2. Jared Knox, Western Boone He made the IFCA Junior All-State team as a defensive back and rushed for more than 1,000 yards as a tailback.
3. Joel Ankeny, Indian Creek Indian Creek likes to pass, but the 5-6, 180-pound senior gives the Braves another option out of the backfield.
TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYERS
1. Ken LaRose, Bishop Chatard The 6-1, 215-pound all-state linebacker anchors one of the best defenses in the state.
2. Nick Martin, Bishop Chatard At 6-5 and 260 pounds, the two-way senior lineman is a headache for the opposition wherever he lines up.
3. Walker Vleck, Indian Creek He intercepted seven passes as a junior and is also one of Indian Creek's top receivers.
