Girls 2011 Tennis Season Wrap-Up

BCHS girls Tennis 2011 ended the regular season 13-4, with losses to Cathedral (1-4), North Central (0-5), Roncalli (0-5) and Noblesville (2-3). They lost to Fishers in the sectional, 2-3. This was a close match where the swing match was settled in three sets at #2 doubles. All the above teams should be in the final state rankings.... all but Fishers have been ranked this season, and Fishers had late-season wins over us, Noblesville, and Roncalli.

The best wins were 4-1 over Pike, 4-1 over Lawrence North, and 3-2 over Franklin, although the best match may have been the 0-5 loss to North Central, which included two three-setters. The Trojans' state ranking peaked at #27, making 9 of the last 11 years for to have been in the state rankings.

Typical lineups for the season were: 1 Singles Heather O'Brien (11), 2 Singles Morgan Paras (10), 3 Singles Katie Nickol (12), 1 Doubles Emily Nightingale (11) and Teddi Doyle (11), 2 Doubles Brittany Siegler (12) and Andrea Sergi (12).

Every position reached the Finals of the City Tournament. Our best effort in the finals was Heather O'Brien, who won the first set before losing to Meredith Goshell from Cathedral.

Best varsity records were Morgan Paras and Emily Nightingale, who both finished 16-4 this season. Nickol had 40 wins over a nice four-year career, including a tough 3-set win in her last match, the sectional vs. Fishers. Sergi totaled 44 career victories, seventeen of them as a junior in 2010. Paras, at 2 singles, won her sectional match with Fishers 6-0, 6-0, and currently has a two-year winning percentage of .810 (34-8).

Given a 2011 JV record of 13-1-1, headlined by Marianne Sergi's 15-0 record, the team might be even better next spring!
