Zirrillo big hit as a senior

Reigning Class 3A state champion Bishop Chatard finished last season as the nation's No. 32 team according to PrepVolleyball.com, but graduated all but one of its offensive threats. Now, senior Jessica Zirrillo is the Trojans' leader and go-to hitter, according to new coach John Rodriguez .

"Jessica continues to improve and is working extremely hard," he said. "She is such a great competitor and is an awesome outside hitter. We are doing what we can and that is giving her the ball as many times as possible."

During Thursday's four-game loss to Scecina, Zirrillo took 52 swings and recorded 25 kills. She was selected to the All-Tournament team of Crossroads Classic Tournament in Effingham, Ill., for racking up 39 kills, 23 digs and seven aces over the weekend.
