The Bishop Chatard foursome of Andrew Poore, Seth Ball, Chris Dietrick and Todd Leone ran the 3,200-meter relay together for the first time at Saturday's Midwest Prep Invitational at Lawrence Central. Trojans coach Dan Kinghorn figures it won't be the last. Chatard finished 0.1 second behind top-ranked Warren Central in 7 minutes, 52.13 seconds. Both Chatard and Warren Central eclipsed the previous meet record of 7:54.95. Warren Central standout De'Sean Turner edged Leone at the finish. "It was shoulder to shoulder the whole last lap, which was pretty exciting," Kinghorn said. Warren Central won six of the 14 events in the invitation-only meet. Chatard's time was also a school record. The previous record came in the 2004 state meet, when the Trojans finished seventh in 7:53.95. Ball and Leone were both part of that team. Kinghorn plans to use the current relay group again in the postseason. "I don't know how much they'll run from now to the end, but that's been our plan for quite a while," Kinghorn said. Noblesville senior Paul Haas was the only participant from the north suburban area to win an event in the boys meet. Haas took the discus with a throw of 165-3.
