A position player her first three years of high school, there she was, facing her first penalty kick shootout, City championship on the line.
"It was, 'Just stay focused. Get pumped. Keep one out,' " the Cathedral senior said.
Good plan.
Gregg stopped three of Bishop Chatard's first four penalty kicks, and the sixth-ranked Irish bested the 16th-ranked Trojans 3-1 in the shootout to secure the City title in girls soccer.
The score at the Lawrence Park soccer complex was tied 1-1 after regulation, and neither team scored in the 14 minutes of overtime.
In the shootout, Cathedral (10-4-1) got scores from Colleen McGrath, Allison Kealing and Chelsie Ford while Gregg was stonewalling the Trojans.
"She was pretty calm," Cathedral coach Marc Behringer said. "Before she went out there, she may have been a little nervous, but once she was in between the pipes, she was fine."
In the boys final that started the same time as the girls on an adjoining field, No. 11 Cathedral rolled to a 3-0 victory against Chatard, and both boys teams were cheering on the sideline as the girls went to the shootout.
The Cathedral girls broke a scoreless tie when freshman Emily Sexson pounded home the ball after a flurry in front of the net 13 minutes into the second half.
Chatard (10-2-1) tied the score with just under three minutes left in regulation. Notre Dame-bound senior Julie Scheidler sent a perfect cross in front of the net, and Lindsey Hyde scored.
"It's always a good match when Cathedral plays Chatard in girls soccer, and it has been for a number of years," Behringer said.
In the boys game, Cathedral (10-3) built a 2-0 halftime lead against the Trojans (6-1-9).
Senior Garrett Hentrup had a goal and assisted on the first score to lead the Irish. Junior Tyler Keever and senior Justin Autajay also scored for Cathedral, and senior Tyler Knight had an assist.
The Irish didn't allow a goal in their two tourney games, beating Ritter 4-0 in the semifinals.
"Defensively, we played very well," Cathedral boys coach Paul Schroeder said. "We didn't give (Chatard) too many opportunities. Against Ritter, we gave them three or four opportunities, but our goalkeeper (senior Nick Domogalik) had several big saves."
