Football wins mean Trojans must adjust
Star correspondent
With their football team recently winning its sectional, the Bishop Chatard Trojans basketball team will start its season with only about half of its varsity roster available.
"I think this has been the sixth straight year," said Chatard coach Chris Quinn, referring to the football team winning its sixth straight sectional title.
When the Trojans do become whole, their strength this season will be the depth of their bench, which Quinn plans to use fully.
"We'll be 12 deep," he said of his team, which finished 12-8 last year.
Senior starters Tyler Kleinschmidt and Joe Holland, both football players, return to the Trojan lineup as well as junior Daryn Hightower. Kleinschmidt is the team's leading returning scorer with 10.8 points while Hightower chipped in 6.9. Holland, who was injured toward the end of last season, tossed in six points a game, and junior Jimmy Kennedy added seven.
Kennedy's twin brother, Billy, also returns, and their younger brother Pat, a sophomore, will join them.
Junior Daniel Kleinschmidt, Tyler's brother, also returns to the varsity while Brandon Newbern, Kyle Dietrick, Zack Martin and forward Derek Czarnecki are new additions.
