Powerful, fast and elusive.
All three terms fit Joe Holland and Darren Evans, seniors at Bishop Chatard and Warren Central high schools who have been chosen Players of the Year for the 2006 All-City and All-Marion County football teams, as selected by The Star.
Honors were based on nominations and voting by coaches in the City and Marion County. Star staff members finalized the selections.
A 6-2, 205-pound running back, Holland rushed for 2,040 yards and 33 touchdowns in leading Chatard to the Class 3A state championship. The Purdue recruit also had 140 yards on seven receptions and is a repeat pick as City Player of the Year.
Evans, a 6-1, 212-pound running back, rushed for a state-best 2,806 yards and had a state-record 61 rushing touchdowns in leading Warren Central to a fourth straight Class 5A state title. He added 51 yards and a TD on seven receptions, and has committed to Virginia Tech.
Cathedral's Jim O'Hara and Warren Central's Steve Tutsie were voted City and Marion County Coaches of the Year by their peers.
O'Hara, 47, guided the Irish to the Class 4A state title with a 13-2 record. He is 39-21 in five seasons at his alma mater and 76-45 overall.
Tutsie, who turned 41 Wednesday, directed the Warriors to a 15-0 record and 5A crown in his first season as a head coach.
