Scheidler player of the year
Bishop Chatard High School soccer player Julie Scheidler was named Gatorade Player of the Year for Indiana. She is a finalist for the national player of the year award, which will be announced in May. Winners are selected not only for their outstanding athletic performance but also for their academic performance and their character.
Scheidler, who will continue her career at the University of Notre Dame, finished the year with 20 goals and 11 assists and had 73 goals and 37 assists for her career, both school records. She has a 4.43 grade-point average, is ranked fourth in her class and serves as a volunteer counselor at area youth camps and as a peer tutor.
"She's a really, really special individual," Bishop Chatard coach Ben Reilly said in a statement. "She can play any position. We could have put her on defense, at midfield, up top; she could do that for any team, anywhere. She understands the game very, very, very well."
