Bishop Chatard eyes big season
Star correspondent
Bishop Chatard shot a 300 in the 2006 Lawrence Central Sectional, missing advancement to the regional by one stroke. With three starters back from that team, Trojans coach Chris Quinn is optimistic about his team's chances this spring.
"Last year we missed getting out by one shot, and we have three of five players back," Quinn said. "We've got a couple strong sophomores we can plug into those spots. We're very excited about this season."
The Trojans return two players who have competed in every Chatard varsity match the past three seasons in seniors Will Catton and Matt Dodson. Catton averaged a nine-hole 38.5 a year ago and shot an 80 in the sectional. Dodson posted a 39.0 average and closed the year with a 75 in the regional. Quinn sees both players at or near par this spring.
"I think those can shoot at par or one or two strokes over every night out," Quinn said. "We really need those two to be at those numbers for us. We don't need them to carry us, but we are expecting some big things from those two."
Chatard also returns Pat O'Brien, who shot an 83 in the regional and averaged a 40.3 last spring. Sophomores Michael Parsons (41.6), Rob Turk (42.1) and senior Connor Noll (44.2) also saw varsity action in 2006.
