Coach: Grueling schedule will help

The Indianapolis Indians have nothing on Bishop Chatard.
Thursday's game against Class 3A No. 2 New Palestine was the Trojans' 19th in the past 21 days. Beginning with an 11-7 victory over Lawrence North on April 19, Bishop Chatard was 10-3 to start the brutal stretch but entered the New Palestine game having been shut out in five straight games.
"We've played nonstop," coach Pat Miles said. "It's been a grind for us, and it's kind of caught up to us. We did see (a lack of confidence) on Monday night (in an 11-0 loss to 2A No. 1 Scecina), and we fixed it. We showed a little bit of life (in Wednesday's 1-0 loss to Pike). The girls didn't hang their heads when we got down 1-0."
Miles believes the grinding schedule, which finishes up with Class 4A No. 8 Avon, will benefit his team in the future, as Wednesday's starting lineup included five sophomores and two freshmen. The Trojans (12-10) drew a first-round bye in sectionals and will face Howe for a berth in the championship game.
"I'm proud of our team's effort," Miles said. "We're starting (seven) sophomores and freshmen, and we're very competitive. The future bodes well, and I'm still excited about this year."
