Girls State Track Preview
Star correspondent
Bishop Chatard Bishop Chatard high school will look to improve its 19th-place finish a year ago when its qualifiers (including five seniors) compete in six events today in Bloomington. On its 3,200-meter relay team, Bishop Chatard will have seniors Amy Davis and Annie Barnes, sophomore Carly Sobolewski and freshman Christine Kirby. In the 1,600-meter relay, Chatard will run Barnes and Christine again, along with seniors Maggie Cappel and Ebony Robinson. Christine will participate in the 800-meter run, and senior Kelly Gardner will compete in the discus and shot put. In the pole vault, sophomore Alex Metzger will try to top the state's finest. "We feel like the hard part is done," said Chatard coach Dan Kinghorn. "This week we've just been preparing mentally for the competition." While Chatard won't be able to compete for the state title, performing well in each event is motivation enough. "We just want to go there and do our best," Kinghorn said. "We want to perform better than our seeding, and we would like to have a lot of girls up on that medal stand. It's just going to be a team effort."
