An All-American. A Gatorade State Player of the Year. A City and Super Team Player of the Year.
Those are just some of the awards Bishop Chatard High School senior Julie Scheidler received for her excellence in soccer, but they were secondary to what The Star's 2007 City Female Athlete of the Year meant to her team and school.
"Julie's accolades are mind boggling, but her biggest talent was her eagerness to do whatever her team needed," Trojans athletic director Mike Ford said of the Notre Dame-bound star.
"She could play any position on the field, and her resulting performance game in and game out is phenomenal when you consider that every team knew they had to stop her to have success against us."
A four-year starter, Scheidler set career school records for goals (73), assists (37) and points (183). Along the way, she earned All-City honors all four years and all-state honors three times.
"Julie's level of play naturally lifted her teammates, and it is no coincidence that the past four years are by far the most successful in girls soccer school history," Ford said.
Notre Dame women's soccer coach Randy Waldrum said Scheidler is ready for the next level.
"She is a very technical player and true student of the game whose constant drive will make her successful," Waldrum said in a statement.
Scheidler also played varsity basketball for one season, helping the Trojans win a sectional and set a school record for wins in 2005-06. She averaged 3.5 steals, 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds on a 19-4 squad. Scheidler had a 4.42 grade-point average and ranked seventh in her class of 206.
