Senior receives Pro-Life Award

Senior Victoria Nondorf will be honored with the Our Lady of Guadalupe Pro-Life Youth Award. The award, to be given on October 2nd, is in honor of her outstanding leadership in the Pro-Life movement. She has been involved in the Pro-Life Movement since her freshmen year.

56 different academic accolades were awarded to BCHS the student athletes in 2010/2011. These included 6 Academic All-Americans, 48 First Team and 8 Honorable Mention.

Fehribach receives Spirit of Sport Award
|
May, '11
Joe Fehribach was selected as the recipient of St. Vincent's Spirit of Sport Award. This award is given by St. Vincent's to the student-athlete that demonstrates each of the six core values of St. Vincent Sports Performance: service, reverence, integrity, wisdom, creativity.
Fehribach won this year's IHSAA Mental Attitude Award for 3A football, was a state finals wrestling participant, and a first year track & field team member. Fehribach was selected as the Student Council President, and was given the Scholar Athlete Award by the National Football Foundation and All-State Academics for both football and wrestling. He has been a volunteer at St. Mary's Child Center, Forum at the Crossing Nursing Home, Cathedral Soup Kitchen, canned food drives, and St. Augustine Game Night for the elderly.

Lady Trojan honored with state award

Rachel Ward was selected to receive the first annual Candi-Parry Scholarship Award. This scholarship is awarded to one player within the state who exemplifies 7 characteristics that lead to continued development of the sport and growth of female athletes on and off the field. The characteristics are: commitment to lacrosse, volunteerism, sportsmanship, teamwork, dedication, passion, and counsel. This is now the highest honor within the state girls lacrosse community.

BCHS Student is named Academic All-Star 2011

Senior Daniel Soffera has been named an Indianapolis Star Academic All-Star for 2011, one of the top 40 students in the state of Indiana. Each Indiana high school nominates one senior for this prestigious award, based on outstanding academic, leadership and extra-curricular involvement in their high schools. Congratulations also go to BCHS social studies teacher Stacy Wright, who Daniel selected as his as most influential educator.

Football player receives top award

Congratulations to varsity football player Joseph Fehribach, as he received the Phil. N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award after the State Championship Football game. The recipient of this award must excel in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership, and athletic ability in football. Joe serves Bishop Chatard as the student council president, a member of the retreat team, and a member of the National Honor Society.

Congratulations to Lauren Shipley who won the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen Award for Bishop Chatard High School. Lauren was awarded this honor based on dependability, leadership, service, and patriotism. She now enters the regional division.

Congratulations to Julian Keefe, one of 3,100 seniors named outstanding participants in the National Achievement Scholarship Program. Julian scored in the top 3 percent of more than 160,000 Black Americans who requested consideration in the 2011 National Achievement Program when taking the 2009 PSAT exam.

National Merit Honorees: 2010

Congratulations to Daniel Soffera '11 and William Soffera '11, who have been named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition. They are among a group of approximately 16,000 students nationwide named as semifinalists based on the scores received on PSAT exams taken in 2009.
Congratulations to Joe Mark, who was named a commended student in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Competition. Nationwide, 34,000 were named commended students.

BCHS is honored as a Healthy Hoosier School
|
May, '10
BCHS will be recognized as a Healthy Hoosier School winner on the Bronze level. Bishop Chatard is one of three archdiocesan schools to be recognized in the 2009-2010 school year. Others include Christ the King Catholic School and St. Louis Elementary School (Batesville).
Bishop Chatard is one of 15 secondary schools to be awarded a gold, silver, or bronze award for making a commitment to create an environment that encourages students to develop healthy nutritional and physical activity habits.

Four students receive Spirit of Youth Award

Four BCHS students were honored by the Catholic Youth Organization May 4 as recipients of 2010 Spirit of Youth awards. Congratulations to Kimmie Klee (Christ the King), John Cougan (Immaculate Heart of Mary), Cassie Bormann (St. Matthew), and Brian Ross (St. Simon). Bishop Chatard is proud of the commitment these young people have made to service in their parishes and community.

Rachael Kimack is named City Scholar Athlete

Congratulations to Rachael Kimack for being named the Marion County Coaches of Girls Sports Association Outstanding City Scholar Athlete for the 2009-10 school year! Rachael is only the fifth Lady Trojan in the organization's history to win this honor and the first since Julie Scheidler was honored in 2007. Way to go Rachael!

Senior Robby Wagner has been named an Indianapolis Star Academic All-Star for 2010. 40 Indiana seniors are recognized each year in this collaborative effort by The Star, the Indiana Dept. of Education and the Indiana Association of School Principals for outstanding academic, leadership and extra-curricular involvement in their high schools. Congratulations also go to BCHS English teacher Missy Ellis, the educator named by Robby as most influential in his academic development.

Student named best delegate in Model UN Program

Special congratulations to Aaron Ketzenberger, who won the Best Delegate Award on the World Health Organization Committee.
The IUPUI Model U.N. is the oldest continuing Model U.N. in the nation.

Student earns foreign language honor

Congratulations to Junior Sara Arias who has been selected by the Indiana University Honor's Program in Foreign Languages for High School Students to study for 6 weeks in Oviedo, Spain. Sara will live with a Spanish family and attend classes in Spanish language and culture. She also received a $1,000 grant from FAFSA for the program.

Citadel, Yearbook, is featured in Jostens' "Look Book"

Bishop Chatard's yearbook, Citadel, has been recognized for excellent and featured in the 2010 Gotcha Covered Look Book, Volume 8. Published annually, Jostens' Look Book is a collection of pages from outstanding yearbooks and their creative themes, cool covers, dazzling designs, relevant coverage, and action-packed photography. It features extraordinary work of yearbook staffs and advisers from around the world and is a popular resource for yearbook advisers and staffs seeking creating design and coverage ideas, trends, and inspiration.
The Citadel was created by the 2008-2009 yearbook staff under the direction of Tracy Luke, BCHS yearbook adviser. This is the second consecutive year the Citadel has earned the recognition. The Citadel was one of only 518 yearbooks selected from over 3,000 reviewed by a panel of judges. According to a Jostens spokesperson, the yearbooks chosen for the Jostens' 2010 Gotcha Covered Look Book reflect the sophistication and relevance of yearbook programs and demonstrate why yearbooks remain so popular among students as a means to capture and share their school experiences and traditions.

The staff of "The Citadel", the yearbook, earned a silver medal from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in a critique of yearbooks nationwide, with special marks for photography, design and coverage.

The Tribune won the most total awards in any division (small, medium, large schools). The Columbia Scholastic Press Association has named the Tribune a Gold Medalist winner. Gold Medalist is the highest standing awarded by the CSPA. In addition, the newsmagazine was awarded All-Columbian honors (special merit) in coverage and staff operations.

Sarah Siertle is recognized for summer service education

Sarah was honored for her work as a junior board member and classroom mentor with Art With A Heart, where she has volunteered for the past four years.

National Merit finalist, commended students are named
|

Bishop Chatard senior Kim Tyler has been named a finalist in the 2009
National Merit Scholarship Program. National Merit finalists represent
less than 1 percent of all graduating high school seniors in the United
States. Kim will graduate 3rd in her class and plans to attend St.
Mary's College in the fall of 2009.
National Merit commended students from Bishop Chatard include John
Brumleve, Sarah DeNardin, Ruth Maust, Ricky Rivelli, Christen Salyer and

2 Students are chosen for I.U. Honor's Program in Foreign Languages
|
Spring, '09
Congratulations to juniors Ellie Panahi and Natalie Lorenzano who will travel to France this summer with the I.U. Honor's Program in Foreign Languages. They went through a rigorous selection process throughout the school year to be accepted into this prestigious program. They will study and travel in France for seven weeks, living with French families. They will sign a contract to speak no English for the entire seven weeks. Bon Voyage!

Congratulations to the staff of the BCHS yearbook, The Citadel, on
being recognized for excellence and featured in the 2009 Gotcha Covered
Look Book. Published annually by yearbook publisher, Jostens, the Look
Book features yearbook spreads and covers from across the country. The
Gotcha Covered Look Book is one of the most popular reference guides for
yearbook advisers and staffs seeking creative design and coverage ideas,
trends, and inspiration.
The BCHS Citadel was one of only 435 yearbooks
selected to be featured from thousands submitted. Inclusion in this
guide recognizes the level of excellence achieved by the Citadel staff.

Sarah DeNardin is named Indy Star Academic All-Star
|

Congratulations to BCHS senior Sarah DeNardin! Sarah is one of 40 high
school seniors throughout the state named a 2009 Indianapolis Star
Academic All-Star! Sarah was honored at a luncheon hosted by the
award sponsors: The Indianapolis Star, the Indiana
Department of Education, and the Indiana Association of High School
Principals.

Bishop Chatard students represented three of the four high school
students named as winners in this year's Serra Club essay contest.
Congratulations to senior Allie Ferraro, junior Kevin
Zander, and freshman Emily King. The topic for this year's essay was
"How do priests, deacons, and religious brother and sisters help us to
hear God's call."

Student wins award at Model UN
|
Spring, '09
Congratulation to Thomas Welch who won the Outstanding Delegate Award for his work on the Security Council in this year's Model United Nations Program at IUPUI. 31 Bishop Chatard juniors and seniors participated this year. Model U.N. is an international program which began in 1923. IUPUI has the oldest continuing Model U.N. program in the country. Bishop Chatard's team represented Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Vietnam, Burkina Faso, and St. Kitts and Nevis. The students participated in different committees and worked on a wide range of issues including protecting the rights of indigenous people, Haitian peace and security, and rain forest conservation.

BCHS teachers earn recognition

Spring, '09
Congratulations to BCHS science department chair, Dan McNally, this year's BCHS Golden Apple nominee. The Golden Apple award is presented by the Indiana Department of Education annually recognizing excellence in teaching.
Sister Susan Lindstrom, OSB, was accepted as a participant in "Making Sense of the Reformation," a seminar sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Sr. Susan, BCHS religion department chair, will be studying at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, from June 28 to July 27, along with 24 other high school educators.

Academic All-State honors for Winter Sports
|
School pride from the playing field into the classroom is recognized by the Indiana Coaches Association. Awards for Academic All-State First Team recognition go to swim seniors Leah Kilbane, Matthew Grote, Jon Poore, and Jake Staab. Boys basketball honorable mention goes to Evan Huxhold and Patrick Kennedy. Academic All-State First Team awards went to bowlers Ricky Rivelli and Hannah Lechner.
Luke Johnstone was honored as 1 of 5 Pacers' City-County Academic All-Stars presented by the Kiwanis Club of Indianapolis. Congratulations!

2009 Hoosier Boys State delegates selected
|
Kevin Zander and Mark Hanley have been chosen to represent Bishop Chatard at the 2009 Hoosier Boys State Assembly. The students will attend a one-week workshop at Triune University in Angola, Ind., in June. HBS teaches students about their state and local governments and lets them participate in mock elections of government positions and vote on bills that may be important to their generation.
