  • Bishop Chatard High School is State of Indiana and the North Central Association of Schools accredited. In 2017-2018, enrollment is 712 students. The student to teacher ratio is 13:1, with an average class size of 18 students.

    Bishop Chatard received national recognition as a 2014 School of Excellence by the Catholic Education Honor Roll. Schools are awarded the designation based on academic excellence and the integration of Catholic identity throughout all aspects of their programs. Only 71 high schools in the nation, only 3 high schools in Indiana and only 1 high school in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis received this award.
  • BCHS received an 'A' rating for seven consecutive years, the most recent being 2016/2017, from the Indiana Department of Education. 'A' ratings are based on college and career readiness scores, ECA scores, and graduation rate.
  • Bishop Chatard was named a 4-Star School of Indiana for the 2015/2016 school year, the fourth year in a row to receive the honor. BCHS was one of 248 in the state to receive the honor for that year.
  • The Academic Support Program provides services designed to meet the needs of the college-bound student with learning differences. In 2017, 18% of the students received academic support.
  • The Summa Cum Laude Program is designed to challenge and prepare the most gifted college-bound student for a successful post-secondary career. In 2017, 8 seniors earned the Summa Cum Laude distinction.
  • Nearly 45% of 2016 North Deanery 8th graders chose to attend Bishop Chatard.
  • During the 2015-2016 school year, Bishop Chatard provided $710,000 in need-based tuition assistance. Nearly 40% of BCHS students receive need-based aid. 85% of those families are from Catholic parishes.

Academic Highlights

  • Approximately 95% of Bishop Chatard 2017 graduates are going on to college.
  • Nearly 4 of every 5 BCHS graduates begin college with college credit.
  • 71% of the Class of 2017 earned Academic Honors Diplomas.
  • 46% of the Class of 2016 earned a passing grade (3 or higher) on an AP exam. In recognition of this performance, BCHS received an Advanced Placement Award from the IN Department of Education.
  • In 2016/17, 71% of students who took AP exams received AP honors.
  • The BCHS yearbook, The Citadel, received the 'Hoosier Star' award as the top yearbook in the '1000 student and under' category for 4 consecutive years: 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and was one of the top 3 in 2015.   • In 2015/2016, Trojan Matters, the monthly school newsmagazine, was named the top in the state in their division, receiving numerous awards for articles, infographics and more.   • In 2017, an article and an editorial from Trojan Matters received top and third place in the Indiana Best of the Best High School Journalism Competition. Both articles received second in the nation in the National Federation of Press Women Competition.
  • In 2016, BCHS Art students received Gold Key, Silver Key (2) and Honorable Mention in the Scholastic Art Competition.
  • ISTEP+ End of Course Assessments (ECA) passage rate for 2015/2016 was 88.1%. (% taking the test for the first time who passed). The state average was 65.4%.
  • One student from the Class of 2017 received National Merit Commended Scholar recognition.
  • Four students from the Class of 2018 were named Rising Stars of Indiana by the IN Association of School Principals. This award is based on academic achievement.
  • During the 2016-2017 school year, 88 student-athletes were awarded Academic All-State honors. Five students were named Academic All-American.
  • Students from the BCHS Class of 2017 collectively earned over $24 million in scholarships.

Faith and Service

  • BCHS students attend weekly all-school liturgies.
  • All BCHS students participate in a service program, with over 18,000 service hours completed in 2016/17.
  • 97 percent of BCHS students participate in annual faith-based retreat opportunities (2016/17)
  • In 2016/2017, 20% of the students participated in Liturgical Ministries; 42 students and alumni led mission trips; 78 upperclassmen served as freshman mentors.
  • Three members of the Class of 2015 entered the seminary upon graduation, Charlie Wessel, James Callahan, and Caleb O'Connor. Please keep them in your prayers.

Leadership and Extracurricular Activities

  • Students can join their choice of over 30 clubs and 27 varsity sports.
  • Over 245 students participate in the school ambassador program, one of Bishop Chatard's leadership opportunities.
  • In 2016/2017, 93% of the students were involved in at least one club; 84% were involved in a sport.
  • In 2017, two student members of the Model UN Club received Distinguished Delegate honors; one received honorable mention.
  • The Trobotics Club won the VEX Robotics City Championships in 2015 and 2016. In spring 2017, they advanced to the State Championship for the third year in a row.
  • The football team won a record 13th State Championship in 2015.
  • Since 2000, the Indianapolis Star has named 17 BCHS students as male or female City Athletes of the Year.
