At A Glance

• Bishop Chatard High School is State of Indiana and the North Central Association of Schools accredited. In 2011-2012, enrollment is 724 students, 13.3 percent minority enrollment. The student to teacher ratio is 13:1.
• 82 percent of the student body came to BCHS from North Deanery parishes; 65 different feeder schools are represented.
• BCHS offers students the ability to learn at three distinct levels, providing academic opportunities for all students.
• The Academic Support Program provides services designed to meet the needs of the college-bound student with learning differences. Seventeen percent of the student body (125 students) receive academic support.
• The Summa Cum Laude Program is designed to challenge and prepare the most gifted college-bound student for a successful post-secondary career. There are currently 5 seniors and 11 juniors working on completing the program.
• 95 percent of Bishop Chatard graduates enroll in 4-year colleges; 2-3% enroll in community colleges or 2-year programs; 1-2% military; and 1% workforce.
• During the 2011-2012 school year, Bishop Chatard provided $564,000 in need-based tuition assistance to 185 BCHS students.

Academic Highlights for 2010-2011

• BCHS Yearbook and Newspaper staff receive awards in 7 out of 10 categories from the Indiana State Press Association in 2010-2011.
• Sixteen Bishop Chatard students received AP Scholar Awards for outstanding achievement on AP tests taken in 2011. Six were named AP Scholars with Honor and two were named AP Scholars with Distinction. Bishop Chatard offers 17 AP classes.    What is an AP Scholar?
• For the third consecutive year, BCHS was represented among Indy Star's Top 40 list of Academic All-Stars in 2011 (One of only 2 schools in the state with that distinction).
• Two members of the Class of 2011 were named National Merit Finalists and one was given 'Commended Student' recognition. Two members of the Class of 2012 were given 'Commended Student' recognition.
• Of the 504 student-athletes at Bishop Chatard during the 2010-2011 school year, 48 were awarded Academic All-State and 6 were awarded Academic All-American Honors.
• 49 of the 122 graduates of the Class of 2011 were inducted into the National Honor Society.
• The 122 members of the BCHS Class of 2011 collectively earned over $9.7 million in scholarships. $538,600 was received by the 18 graduates who participated in the school's Academic Support program.

Faith and Service

• BCHS students attend weekly Mass with their classmates and monthly all-school liturgies.
• All BCHS students participate in a project-based service program.
• More than 95 percent of BCHS students participate in annual faith-based retreats.
• Bishop Chatard students have won SERRA Club Essay awards for three consecutive years.

Leadership and Academic Activities

• Over 210 students participate in Bishop Chatard's leadership program.
• 25 Students are on the BC for Kids committee; another 150 participate in fundraising efforts.
• Since 1999, the Indianapolis Star has named 13 BCHS students as male or female City Athletes of the Year.    Who were they?  
• Students can get involved in over 40 clubs, three intramural sports, and 28 varsity sports.
