8-Class School Day Option

As students plan their course of studies, the BCHS administrative team wants to bring an important possible option to your attention.

From the Student Handbook:
"Bishop Chatard High School offers an eight-class school day. By expanding the schedule to allow for eight class periods, the school is expanding the opportunity for students who are pursuing an Academic Honors Diploma or those who have a special interest in the fine arts (music, theatre, art) to take electives while meeting coursework requirements. Increasing a student's academic schedule from seven to eight classes is optional."

Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 are eligible for the option. This 8th class can be taken during a lunch period. Students taking the 8th class would eat lunch during the homeroom period between 4th and 5th period.

What courses are available? Classes in fine and practical arts, journalism and business are a few of the great course options being offered. (List of classes) There is no additional charge for students enrolling in the extra class. Increasing a student's academic schedule from seven to eight classes is optional.

We strongly recommend that students take advantage of this excellent opportunity for academic excellence and enrichment. If you have additional questions, please talk to your child's guidance counselor.

Note: The eight-class option will not be approved as a way to retake academic courses in order to raise a student's grade point average. Eight-class schedules must be pre-approved. Submission of the approval form above is required.
