Friday TroZone Student Tailgate
Come cheer on the Trojans as they play for the Football Regional Title on Fri, Nov. 11 (7pm at Arlington HS). (Listen to it live at 102.3FM) -- and -- It's a TroZone Student Tailgate As part of WISH-TV's coverage, we're showing our spirit with a Student Tailgate, starting at 4:30pm at Arlington. There will be music, a monster slide, food (Qdoba and Chick-fil-a), a car smash (Bring 5 cans to smash a car with a sledge hammer 5 times). Arrive early and receive free tickets to the iPad raffle. (Before 5pm, students receive 2 tickets; before 6pm, one. Winner will be drawn at 6:45. Student must be present to win.) It's a Blue-Out, so wear your blue in support of the team in their quest for victory!
Service Opportunity: Jan. 21
Serve those hungry and in need. The Bishop Chatard morning at the Cathedral Soup Kitchen is Sat, Jan. 21, 9:30am to around 1:30pm. Anyone interested should pick up a permission slip outside Campus Life and Ministry. The group will be traveling by BCHS mini bus, meeting in the back parking lot.

The BCHS Wall Of Fame 2011 Induction Ceremony will honor 25 athletes/alumni for their accomplishments in their sport(s) throughout their high school career. Thanksgiving Meal: Volunteers are needed
Student Council is hosting a free Thanksgiving Meal at BCHS on 11/24 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm and we need your help.

Lacrosse Call-Out Meeting: Nov. 17
Boys Lacrosse will have a call out meeting Thurs, Nov. 17 from 3:30-4:30pm in the cafeteria for current and new players with Coach Bruno. If involved with other sports, please swing by and pick up some paperwork before going to your practice. The 2012 lacrosse season and the up-coming conditioning will be discussed.
BCHS students' art in Dia de Los Muertos Art Exhibit
The BCHS 3-D sculpture class had 6 exhibits chosen by the Indianapolis Art Center for inclusion in their commemoration of 'Dia de Los Muertos, Day of the Dead' at the center. These memorials were built and installed by the students, with statements translated into Spanish. Their work is on display now until the end of November. The public celebration of Dia de Los Muertos is Oct. 29, a huge free community event. Find out more about the day and the exhibit at the Art Museum's website.

The Lady Trojans are playing for the State Championship on Sat, at 3pm at Ball State U. (Worthen Arena). Send them well wishes: Email jausenbaugh@bishopchatard.org with well wishes, words of encouragement, prayers, and/or memories! We'll post them in the volleyball locker room to cheer them on! Take the student fan bus to Muncie: $10 will hold your spot, (you get it back when you load the bus). (Thank you to a generous fan for the bus donation.) The only cost you'll have is the $9 ticket. Reservation and permission slip (download here or pick up at the Athletic office) must be turned in by 3:30pm Thursday! It's a 'Blue Out', so all fans are encouraged to wear blue! Official Girls VB blue state shirts will be on sale for $5 Wed, Thurs and Fri in the cafeteria during lunch.
Cardboard City: Oct. 25, 26
On Oct. 25 & 26, Bishop Chatard will be hosting its first ever Cardboard City, a homelessness simulation for students. The event runs from 6:30pm, Oct. 25 through the school day on Oct. 26. Registration is limited and requires a parent to have attended the information night or to have a conversation with Campus Life and Ministry. Permission slips and $10 registration fee are due to Campus Life and Ministry by Friday, October 21.

PSAT/PLAN Testing, Senior College Visit Day, early release: Oct. 12
Freshmen students will take the ACT's PLAN on Oct. 12. This is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students measure their current academic development, explore career/training options, and make plans for the remaining years of high school and post-graduation years.
Sophomores and Juniors will take the College Boards PSAT, a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT as well as gain access to college and career planning tools.
PSAT results are also used as entry for Junior students into the National Merit scholarship program.
Freshman, sophomore, and junior students will be dismissed at 11:00AM on Oct. 12.
Senior students are excused from school on this day and are encouraged to make a college visit or to utilize this time for college applications.
'The Man Who Came to Dinner', November 3, 4, & 5
Set in a small town in Ohio, 'The Man Who Came to Dinner' tells the story of well-known radio wit, Sheridan Whiteside. He is invited to dinner at the house of wealthy factory owner, Ernest W. Stanley and his family. Before Whiteside even steps inside, he slips on the icy front porch and injures his hip. From that point on, comedy ensues.
The play begins each evening at 7:30pm at BCHS. General admission tickets are $7. Reserved seating is $10. BCHS student admission is $2 with a student ID. (Tickets are available in the Spirit Shoppe during lunch.)
Author Mike Yankoski to speak on Nov. 8
Author of BCHS's summer reading book 'Under the Overpass' Mike Yankoski will be coming to speak to the student body on Nov. 8 at 9:40am. He will share his experience living homeless on the streets of America.
'Eat this, not that!', Sports Nutrition Do's & Dont's Presentation on Oct. 24
St. Vincent Sports Performance Dietitian Lindsay Langford will be at BCHS on Mon, Oct. 24, from 6-7pm in the Bishop Chatard cafeteria to discuss the do's and dont's of sports nutrition. Several Chatards athletes diets will be analyzed and evaluated similarly to the popular "Eat this, not that" books. Girls Freshmen Volleyball team wins City Championship
With heart, strength and mental toughness, the Lady Trojans freshmen volleyball team became City Champions with a win over Cathedral on Oct. 8. The Trojans won the first game of the match, 25-13. The Irish rallied back and took the second game, 21-25. In the third game, the Trojans were down 8-12 and came back to win, 15-13! Congratulations, Lady Trojans!

Bishops call for action on HHS ruling
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has urged all concerned to voice their opinion to HHS (Dept. of Health & Human Services) concerning HHS's recent ruling requiring free birth control, sterilization and counseling in most private health care plans.

Fall Fest: Haunted House of Horror: Oct. 22
BCHS is hosting a Fall Festival and haunted house on October 22nd from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The event is for children ages 3-12. Bring your little ones or borrow some little ones to bring. There will be a lights-on tour around 7:30 for our guests who might be too afraid to walk the hallway in the dark. All of our tours are guided for the safety of the ghosts and the haunted. Respect Life Mass and Life Chain: Oct. 2
Attention all those interested in Pro-Life: Please pick up a permission slip to attend this year's Respect Life Mass and Life Chain on Sunday, October 2. The day will include Mass at the cathedral and prayerful protest of abortion along Meridian Street. In addition, after the Mass, senior Victoria Nondorf will receive this year's Our Lady of Guadalupe Pro-Life Award. Permission slips are due to Miss Rea by Friday, September 23. This is a great way to support life in our city!
Props Needed for the Fall Play
Props and furniture are needed for the fall play, 'The Man Who Came to Dinner', which will be held Nov. 3-5. The play is set in a conservative, well-to-do home in Ohio in the 1930s, and we are needing props to reflect the historical times. List of Props. Capital Campaign Town Hall Meetings: Sept. 28 and Oct. 3
Bishop Chatard will be hosting town hall meetings for all current parents to discuss the Golden Opportunities Capital Campaign. There will be two separate opportunities to take part in this discussion: Wed, Sept. 28 and Mon, Oct. 3, both at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. During these meetings, BCHS President Bill Sahm will present the campaign and the timing of the planned improvements in greater detail. Please make an effort to attend one of these meetings and learn how you can assist in making this dream a reality in the very near future.

On Wed, Sept. 28 and Thurs, Sept. 29, Ryan Moran (BCHS Graduate) will be speaking to the Freshman during SRT period (10:50 a.m.) in the Auxiliary Gym. He will talk about the importance of leadership and being involved in one's school.
Homecoming Tailgate: Fri, Sept. 30
The BCHS Athletic Booster Club is sponsoring a 'Trojan Tailgate' beginning at 6pm in the Broad Ripple parking lot. BCHS Athletic Booster Club members will receive t-shirts and 2 Chik-fil-a meals. (Extra meals are $5/each.) Check in at the alumni table and enjoy the homecoming activities.
'BCHS for Kids' and the Student Council are sponsoring a Homecoming Tailgate from 5:30pm to game time, 7:00pm, at Broad Ripple HS. Brats, chips, drinks, inflatables and games will be offered. Donations will help raise funds for 'BCHS for Kids' organizations: Riley Children's Hospital, Peyton Manning Children's Hospital and Make-A-Wish Foundation. Parents: drop your students off at school for the parade, and meet them at the tailgate! Note: Rides back to school after the game will not be provided, so students should make other arrangements to get home or back to school.

Team places 4th in Regionals, Crafton heads to State Finals
Congratulations to the Girls Golf team, as the Lady Trojans placed 4th in the Regionals, 11 strokes out of heading to the State Finals. Congratulations to Paige Crafton, as she shot a 78, 4th in the Regionals, and advances to the State Finals on Fri, Sept. 30 at the Legends of Indiana.

Senior receives Pro-Life Award
Congratulations to Senior Victoria Nondorf who will be honored with the Our Lady of Guadalupe Pro-Life Youth Award. The award, to be given on October 2nd, is in honor of her outstanding leadership in the Pro-Life movement.
Sports Nutrition Series begins: Sept. 14
Lindsay Langford, Registered Dietitian (RD) and board-certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) with St Vincent Sports Performance will be speaking at Bishop Chatard on Wed, Sept. 14 from 6:00-7:00pm in the cafeteria. This is open to Bishop Chatard athletes and parents that are seeking advice on Sports Nutrition. This is the first session of a five part series that will take place once a month. New York Trip: Signup by Sept. 15
All those interested in the New York trip must sign up by September 15. The first payment of $100 is due at that time as well. Students who have been on the cast or crew for at least one full production period (this fall play will count) are eligible for this trip. Canned Food Drive: Extended to Sept. 23
For the past several years, Bishop Chatard has been donating canned food items from our Thanksgiving food drive to The Food Link, a local food pantry. Recently, their needs have increased faster than they can handle. The lines for food have tripled in the last 2 years. Wynn Tinkham, coordinator of the pantry, contacted our community to help. Big Blue Booster Bash and Reverse Raffle: Sept. 9
Save the date for a great time! The Bishop Chatard Athletic Booster Club will host its 3rd Annual Big Blue Booster Bash & Reverse Raffle on Fri, Sept. 9, from 7-11 PM in the BCHS Activity Center. Dinner, drinks, music and entertainment are included when you buy a raffle ticket for $35/person. Grand prize winner will receive $2,500! And, you won't want to miss the cornhole tourney! Download the ticket order form, submit it to the BCHS Athletic office, and we'll see you there! All proceeds directly benefit BCHS athletics!

Sept. 27 Celebrate Life Dinner: Student signup by Sept. 13
All are invited to attend this year's Celebrate Life Dinner downtown on Tuesday, September 27. The evening will include a nice dinner and a Pro-Life speaker. The first fifteen students to sign up will attend for free. Permission slips are due to Miss Rea by Tuesday, September 13. See Miss Rea for a permission slip or if you have any questions.

Senior Nights recognize Fall athletes: Sept. 16 and 22
The Bishop Chatard community will be recognizing our Senior Fall Sports Athletes on two different nights:

Fri, Sept. 16, senior Football, Trainers, Cheerleaders, Dancers, and Boys Soccer athletes were recognized.

Thurs, Sept. 22, at the Girls Volleyball game vs Cardinal Ritter, senior Girls Volleyball, Boys and Girls Cross Country,Girls Golf, Girls Soccer and Boys Tennis athletes will be recognized. The ceremony with athletes and escorts will be before the start of the Varsity game.

Two (or three) books and two projects: The summer reading program has some changes this year, and a wide variety of books to choose from. View the details of the program. Plan to obtain your book(s) early because it is often difficult to do so at the last minute.
Cathedral Soup Kitchen needs your help
Attention Students: There is an opportunity to volunteer at the Cathedral Soup Kitchen on Sat, Sept. 17. Leave BCHS at 9:30am and return approx. 1pm. Theatre Department announces 2011-12 plays
The BCHS Theatre Department has announced the fall and spring plays. This fall, the comedy 'The Man Who Came to Dinner' by George Kaufman will be presented on Nov. 3, 4, & 5 . The spring musical will be 'Anything Goes' with music from Cole Porter, performed on Apr. 19, 20 & 21.

The Campus Ministry Department invites the Class of 2011 to a Send-Off Dinner on Thurs, Aug. 4 at 6:00pm in the cafeteria. We would like to give you one last chance to see all your classmates before you head off to college, different cities and jobs. Back To School Night: Aug. 16
Mark your calendars for the BCHS Back-to-School Night, on Tues, Aug. 16. Check-in and pick up of student schedules begins at 6 P.M. in the cafeteria. Your first period (according to your child's schedule) will begin promptly at 6:30 P.M. There will not be a general session this year due to the replacement of the Varsity gym floor. We ask that you please not park in the Christ the King parking lot.
