BCHS H1N1 Protocol
Bishop Chatard High School has implemented the following protocols and procedures related to H1N1 flu (swine flu). These measures, as well as others deemed necessary, will be implemented to ensure a healthy environment for our students.
-
The recommended course of action is to be alert to symptoms (fever, cough, sneezing, muscle aches, for example), wash hands frequently, and stay home and consult with your doctor if you are ill. Please know that in addition to the H1N1 flu, cases of seasonal flu may also occur.
-
As long as BCHS is open, the school instructional day and all before-, during- and after-school activities will proceed according to the regular schedule.
-
Students and staff members will be encouraged to wash their hands or use a hand sanitizer at least 5 to 6 times during the school day. Hand sanitizer is available in all classrooms and bathrooms
-
Normal cleaning routines will continue in the school building. Please know that the virus does not survive on surfaces for extended periods of time.
-
Students or staff who feel ill (flu symptoms or any other symptoms) are strongly encouraged to stay home and consult with their doctors.
-
BCHS will not exclude non-symptomatic relatives, friends, or acquaintances of students who have or may have the flu from after-school activities (ball games, etc.)
-
Staff members who exhibit flu-like symptoms during the school day will be asked to go home and take the advised precautionary measures.
-
Students who exhibit flu-like symptoms during the school day will contact parents or guardians through our main office and either have their parent or guardian come to pick them up or the student will be sent home.
-
Participation in field trips will be determined on a case-by-case basis using the most recent guidelines from the CDC.
