Uniform Information

--from the Student Handbook

The BCHS dress code is based on our belief that students should present an image that reflects a sense of pride in themselves, their families, and their school. Our dress code is a reminder that clothing can be simple and uniform and the real worth of the individual is not in the clothing, but in what he or she accomplishes with the gifts God has given.

Uniform Sweatshirts

** Uniform sweatshirts are available through the Bishop Chatard Spirit Shoppe only. The sweatshirts are usually in stock in the Spirit Shoppe, but you can order them (2009/10 Order form). Contact the athletic office at 251-1451, ext. 2249, for more information about ordering the sweatshirt. STUDENTS ARE NEVER PREMITTED TO WEAR HOODED SWEATSHIRTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

Regular Uniform

  1. Uniform pants (Prior to 2004 uniform pants and shorts are identified by a "Schoolbelles" tag on the rear pocket. Beginning in 2004 all pants and shorts will have a BC embroidered on the front pocket.)
  2. Uniform shirt (freshmen - royal blue only) all other - royal blue or white
  3. Uniform fleece sweatshirt (no longer being sold, but still acceptable)
  4. Uniform sweatshirt in blue or gray (The new uniform sweat shirt with the BC emblem on front and the school crest on back comes in blue and gray) **
  5. Socks, sneakers, or casual shoes only - no sandals, crocs, or any type of open toe or open heel shoe

Warm Weather Clothing

(Generally this begins after Spring Break and ends in October. The Director of Student Life will determine the exact dates.)

Uniform tan shorts can be substitued for the regular uniform pants.

Clarifications

  1. Please note that whenever the word 'uniform' is used it means clothing purchased from the designated uniform company, or, in the case of the new uniform sweat shirt only, through the Spirit Shoppe.
  2. During the 2009 - 2010 school year, students do not have to tuck in their BCHS shirts. However, all t-shirts worn under the uniform shirt must be tucked in. Pants can't sag.
  3. The uniform is in effect for all school days and any field trip outside the school that occurs on school days. In order to promote school spirit or celebrate events during the school year, Friday's are designated as spirit days which students may wear any Bishop Chatard shirt (no hoodies) and school bell pants or shorts (fall and spring).
  4. A uniform that is not worn properly or does not fit is a violation of the dress code. Pants must be worn at the waist. Shirt tails of t-shirts must be tucked in and not rolled up underneath. Clothing can't be written on or torn at the hem area. If these conditions aren't met, the student may be asked to purchase a new uniform.
  5. Because there are often cooler days during the warm weather dress code, students may always wear long pants. However, once the regular dress code takes effect, shorts are not permitted.
  6. School uniform sweatshirt and fleece are the only sweatshirt that may be worn during the school day.
  7. Jewelry should be modest and conservative: no long or dangling earrings. No visible body part other than an earlobe, such as eyebrows, nose, tongue, etc., may have pierced jewelry.
  8. Hair may be long as long as it is neat and well groomed. Boys are to be clean-shaven- no mustaches, beards, goatees, or long bushy sideburns.
  9. Any decision as to conformity with the dress code shall be up to the director of student life.

Where to buy uniforms

Schoolbelles (Schoolbelles.com) is the exclusive provider of all Bishop Chatard uniform apparel, except for the sweatshirts. As of June, 2010, Schoolbelles has a new location. They are now located on the North side of the Glendale Mall Center. The new location is next to Famous Footwear, facing 62nd St.
