BCHS Champions Together team advances to State

Bishop Chatard students participating in the BCHS/Washington Township ‘Champions Together’ Unified Sports Bowling Team have qualified for the state competition on March 20, 2021! This is a return engagement for the Trojans – the Bishop Chatard team was state runner-up in the inaugural Unified Sports Bowling competition in 2019.

The BCHS Best Buddies Promoters Chapter partnered with Special Olympics Washington Township to participate in this year’s Unified Sports Bowling competition. Eight Trojans (partners) and seven Washington Township athletes made up three teams of five players each. Trojans include Nicholas Zink, Aidan Zink, Niamh Trivedi, Jayden Parker, Celeste McFerren, Madelyn Pearson, Erinn Redmond and Nina O’Tain.

The Unified Sports team is coached by BCHS teacher and Best Buddies Coordinator David Whittemore ’91 and BCHS Girls Bowling Coach Jenny Socks (Hasch) ’93. Coach Socks’ daughter, two-time bowling state qualifier Lexi Padgett ’18, also assisted.

Champions Together is a collaborative partnership between the Indiana High School Athletic Association and Special Olympics Indiana that promotes servant leadership among student athletes while changing their lives as well as the lives of those with intellectual disabilities.
