These goals and their action steps are in alignment with the National Catholic Standards and Benchmarks for Catholic Schools (NSBECS) as stated herein.
GOAL ONE – Faculty & Staff
Review, grow, and develop benefits for faculty and staff to ensure the financial, social, spiritual, and professional incentives offer a supportive, growth-oriented work environmentAction Steps
- Review compensation from schools in our catchment area and ensure faculty and staff receive competitive compensation (what are we defining as, what’s achievable)
- Review and update schedule to ensure opportunities for professional development and peer to peer support are prioritized
- Examine and expand benefits beyond compensation that add to the quality of life for Bishop Chatard faculty and staff
- Grow faculty and staff opportunities for faith formation and spiritual experiences that support faculty and staff personally and professionally as ministers of the faith
Standard 4 – Mission and Catholic Identity
An excellent Catholic school adhering to mission provides opportunities for Christ-centered adult faith formation and action in service of missionary discipleship and social justice.Benchmarks
4.1 The leader/leadership team provides engaging spiritual formation experiences that prioritize both personal reflection and interpersonal encounter for the faculty and staff on a regular and timely basis.
4.5 Every administrator, faculty, and staff member visibly supports the faith life of the school community.
4.6 The leader/leadership team attends to the unique formative needs of faculty and staff so that all faculty and staff are equipped to support an authentic and vibrant Catholic school faith community.
Standard 7 – Curriculum Aligned with Catholic Identity
An excellent Catholic school has a clearly articulated, rigorous curriculum aligned with professionally accepted, research-based curriculum standards and gospel values implemented through effective instruction.Benchmarks
7.8 Faculty collaborate in professional learning communities to develop, implement, and continuously improve the effectiveness of the curriculum and instruction to result in high levels of student achievement, engagement, and well-being.
7.11 Faculty and staff engage in high-quality and research-based professional development, including religious formation, and are accountable for implementation that supports student learning and well-being.
Standard 10 – Stewardship
An excellent Catholic school develops, carries forward, and monitors a feasible three- to five-year plan, including both current and projected budgets that are the result of a collaborative process, emphasizing faithful stewardship and sustainability.Benchmarks
10.4 Financial plans delineate all costs for key target areas including salaries, instructional programs, equipment and facilities, capital projects, and other identified categories.
GOAL TWO – Academic Curriculum
Ensure academic opportunities meet the growing needs of the 21st century by innovating course offerings, curriculum, and career opportunities, rooted in educating the whole person.Action Steps
- Expand internal course opportunities that directly target the pillars of Bishop Chatard High School, especially leadership development
- Review, grow and establish career exposure opportunities through curriculum offerings
- Establish possible internship opportunities through community partners and diploma requirement pathways
- Develop internal leadership academy
Standard 7 – Curriculum Aligned with Catholic Identity
An excellent Catholic school has a clearly articulated, rigorous curriculum aligned with professionally accepted, research-based curriculum standards and gospel values implemented through effective instruction.7.1 The curriculum adheres to appropriate, delineated curriculum standards in every subject area, and is vertically and horizontally aligned to ensure that each student successfully completes a rigorous and coherent sequence of academic courses based on the curriculum standards.
7.9 The faculty and professional support staff meet (arch)diocesan, state, and/or national requirements for academic preparation and licensing to ensure their capacity to provide effective curriculum and instruction for each student.
GOAL THREE – Student Experience & Mission Effectiveness
- Ensure that all students are thriving as a result of the lived mission of Bishop Chatard, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or religious affiliation
- Provide each student with a quality experience that grows their commitment to faith, learning, leadership and service
Student Life
- Expand surveying current students and recent graduates in regards to their experience at Bishop Chatard, beyond current seniors, to better understand the Bishop Chatard experience for all students
- Increase student life opportunities that include diverse cultural experiences and support the Catholic value of the dignity of every individual
- Annually review student engagement and review ways to better engage all Bishop Chatard students
Community
- Expand parent invitation and involvement through programming and communication that supports the parent/faculty and staff partnership and sense of community with school families, which is necessary for a successful student experience.
- Grow alumni invitations and opportunities to engage with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Hiring & Partnerships
- Formalize a sub-committee that helps coordinate and ensure completion of all action items and initiatives related to the recruitment and hiring of a diverse faculty and staff committed to the mission of Bishop Chatard.
- Hire full time Spanish Liaison and EL teacher
- Increase the number of students, especially historically underrepresented students, exploring future opportunities in the field of education and Catholic ministry.
Defining Characteristics – NSBECS
“The school must be the first social setting, after the family, in which the individual has a positive experience of social and fraternal relationships as a prehr>condition for becoming a person capable of building a society based on justice and solidarity, which are prerequisites for a peaceful life among individuals and peoples” (Congregation for Catholic Education, par 19).
Standard 2
An excellent Catholic school adhering to mission provides an exemplary academic program for religious education and catechesis in the Catholic faith, set within a total academic curriculum that integrates faith, culture, and life.Benchmarks
2.5 Faculty use the lenses of scripture and the Catholic intellectual tradition in all subjects to help students think critically and ethically about the world around them
2.7 The theory and practice of the Church’s social teachings are essential elements of the curriculum
GOAL FOUR – Master Plan
Develop a new master plan that anticipates the facility needs of BCHS for the next 10 – 15 years, while overseeing the successful completion of the Phase 3 projects and initiatives. Include any new, non capital initiatives, as well as enhance any existing initiatives that support the long term vitality of Bishop Chatard.- Ensure the fulfilment of the Phase 3 pledges
- Start and Complete all Master Plan Phase 3 facilities
- Update the Master Plan by identifying and prioritizing additional facility projects needed to enhance our mission fulfillment
- Conduct an enrollment capacity study and provide a response that addresses the outcome
- Develop a plan for the use of current endowment funds and future Endowment growth

12.2 The school’s budget supports facilities, equipment, and technology management with specific funds for maintenance, capital improvements, depreciation, and replacement.
12.3 The school’s purchasing, physical, and technological improvements are, by design, done in alignment with the mission, with budget funds and appropriate external revenue sources.
