Course Description:Genres of Literature, a one-semester course based on the Indiana Academic Standards for English/Language Arts, is designed to help students learn how to read, think, and write critically and cogently about literature. Students will study four genres—poetry, short story, the novel, and drama—to understand how each genre shapes literary understanding or experiences differently and how different genres enable or constrain the expression of ideas. Students will focus on how to argue about literature, especially when compared with other literary texts or critical commentaries.
