Retreats: Sophomores

Men & Women of God

The Men of God and Women of God retreat creates the space for sophomores to ask, “Who is God calling me to be?”, exploring the idea of vocation and God’s call.

These gender-specific retreats will take place concurrently from Thursday morning into Friday afternoon (they will spend one night and miss TWO academic days and extracurriculars on Thursday evening). The retreat is held in September and April. These retreats will be run by seniors on the Retreat Team. The Girls Retreat will be held at Benedict Inn. The Boys Retreat will be held at Jameson Camp.

Sophomore girls attend Women of God, an overnight retreat focused on living in right relationship with themselves, others, and God. They will listen to witness talks given by senior leaders and staff members, share with each other in small groups, hear stories of vocation from local religious sisters, and participate in activities that encourage them to be vulnerable and honest.

Sophomore boys attend Men of God, a nearly parallel retreat experience to the girls’ retreat. They will listen to witness talks given by senior leaders and staff members, share with each other in small groups, hear stories of vocation from local priests and religious brothers, visit a diocesan seminary, and participate in activities that encourage them to be vulnerable and honest.

One minor theme that we are exploring on the boys’ retreat is poverty and solidarity. Just around the corner from BCHS, there are individuals who go without basic necessities of food, water, and shelter every day. Therefore, we will be going without showering for the whole retreat; boys are encouraged to still bring toiletries but won’t be given the option to shower. We are also going to be sleeping on the floor.

Where: Jameson Camp* (new location!) (2001 Bridgeport Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46231) and Bishop Simon Bruté Seminary (2500 Cold Spring Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46222)
