Bishop Chatard continues the policy of keeping backpacks and belongings in student lockers. This expectation will be shared and further explained to students during orientation, including locations where younger students can keep athletic equipment that they may need to bring to school.
Bishop Chatard allows cell phones during passing periods and lunch periods only. During class, seminar, and study halls, phones will be prohibited and expected to be stowed in cell caddies.

Policy on Violations
First Offense

  • Device will be confiscated
  • Student will be assigned a detention
  • Student will be able to pick up their device following detention.

Second Offense

  • Device will be confiscated
  • Student will be assigned a Friday School
  • Parent or guardian will be the only person allowed to retrieve the device from the main office.

In each situation, the Dean of Students will communicate with parents about the violation and steps moving forward.

This policy is in place to protect our students’ social and emotional well being, to protect learning, and to ensure we continue to provide an environment conducive to building lifelong commitments to faith, learning, leadership and service. We will continue to educate both students and staff about the risks and responsibilities associated with social media and personal device use. The policy is regularly reviewed and updated in line with local and Archdiocesan guidelines.

Immunization Records

Students may submit immunization records to BCHS in any of the following ways:
  • In person: Bring immunization documents to the BCHS Nursing office
  • Email: Send to nurses@bishopchatard.org
  • FAX: 317-251-3648, Attention Nurses.
Questions? Contact the School Nursing Office at 317-251-1451 ext. 2245, or email nurses@bishopchatard.org. View the list of required immunizations for the 2025/26 school year.
Attention Incoming Seniors: It’s important to address required senior-year vaccinations before the school year begins, especially the Meningococcal vaccines. There are two different meningococcal vaccines to be aware of:
  1. MCV4 (Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine)
    • Required by Indiana State law
    • Students must complete the 2-dose meningococcal (MCV4) series prior to the start of their Senior year
    • Note: If the first dose was given on or after age 16, only 1 dose is required, per the Indiana State guidelines.
  2. Meningococcal B (MenB) Vaccine
    • Not required for high school, but recommended
    • Many colleges and universities require this vaccine to be started prior to attending
    • This is also a 2 shot series.
If your senior has not received the above, please schedule them as soon as possible. Proof of immunization must be submitted to BCHS. Local County Health Departments can assist with these vaccinations.
Timeframe for Immunizations "Indiana Code 20-34-4-5 states that each school shall require parents to provide proof of student immunization status no later than the first day of school attendance. The same code also states that schools may grant one waiver for up to 20 days to allow students time to obtain the required school vaccines. Students who fail to comply with required school immunizations at the conclusion of this waiver period and who do not have a medical or religious exemption on file or other documentation indicating the immunizations are in progress are not in compliance with state law.” To help prevent such issues, IDOH will be sending notices to parents of children who are missing one or more vaccines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
It is always important that the school staff knows the medical information about your student.

  1. Fill in any sections in PowerSchool and Athletic Final Forms with information as indicated.
  2. If your child has any allergies, the separate Student Allergy Form gives the nurses a quick reference and is very important. Type right into the form, save and email to nurses@bishopchatard.org
  3. If your child will need to take prescription or non-prescription medicines while at school, please fill in the appropriate forms with the detailed information of these.
  4. For any dietary needs, notify the cafeteria using the Dietary Accommodations form.

All of these items are very important for the school to know and care for your child. We appreciate your complete and prompt attention to these items.
